They’re here…..

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I just spent a really long time pouring through 400+ photos from the 4/19 shoot!  Wow….  And this from a girl that has a hard time making choices!!!  Then trying to remember to look at the models face, and the lighting, and the hair, and how the garment looked, ugh!  So much to remember…. here’s a smattering of my favorites.  But not THE favorites……  I’ll make a gallery of those in my ‘Designs’ section.  Oh, and a few photos of the lighting test model – it’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it!!!

Behind the Scenes…..

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I experienced my first professional photo shoot today featuring my designs.  It was a great, and amazingly tiring day!  My model was a complete rockstar – it was her first shoot as well (I think…..).  She didn’t fade once.  The photographer had a great vision which was carried through in all of the 500 shots that he took.  He was incredibly flexible and creative – definitely highlighted my clothes and the hair/makeup beautifully.  Speaking of…. the hair and makeup was highly complimentary to the garments and the concept as a whole.  I couldn’t think of one thing that I’d change from today – it was an amazing first experience.   I may get spoiled…..

I have to say that it was fabulous to work with such professionals.  And that all of us came together just for the sake of creating art.  I think that’s the thing that most amazes me from today – none of us had anything to gain but the end result of beautiful photography.  We all combined our talents and creativity to be able to walk away with portfolio materials.  None of us were in it for money or notoriety.  Art for the sake of art.  I love that.

Bellevue Art Museum – Finally Friday

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

The event at the Bellevue Art Museum was tonight.  You know, the one I’ve been talking endlessly about…..  It was a great success.  My girls looked beautiful, my dresses fit and were well received, I got tons of compliments, made some good industry contacts, and got to wear red lipstick for the first time.  Can’t really complain!!!

I was fortunate enough to meet an amazing woman in 2008 by the name of Pam Norris.  We met at yoga, and really connected in our love of design and creativity.  Ms. Norris is a fabulous jewelry designer.  I’ve asked her on several occasions to lend me pieces that coordinate with my garments – recall Gluttony???  That was the most amazing (and heavy!) necklace I’ve ever seen.  So, naturally, I have asked her for necklaces for the Bellevue show.  She brought me quite the selection…. but I think I’ve edited it down to several good options.  Oh, and I’ve thrown in a photo of the necklace that I stole from her ;-)  I love my necklace……

Sneak Peak!!!!

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Here’s a sneak peak at the garments I’m creating for the Bellevue Art Museum event on 4/16.  Madonna (my Intern) worked her butt off yesterday bustling the long burlap skirt!!!  I started the multi-fabric skirt yesterday with the handkerchief hems and will be working on it more today and tomorrow.  Also, these are the same dresses that will be photographed by Jeff DeLaCruz (  Jewelry will be provided by Pamela Norris Designs for the show and the shoot – I’ll have the necklaces this week and will make another post about Pam’s phenomenal talent (

Catching up…..

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Well, March was a busy month!  Between my personal commitments, work, and designs…. I’m ready for a fresh beginning to April!  My Intern and I are working hard to prepare for the Bellevue Art Museum show.  I’ll be showing three garments – they’re incredibly feminine looks made out of masculine and rough fabrics (think burlap, pin stripes, wools, etc.).  I love the contrast of the soft feminine with the rough masculine look :-)  It’s going to be a good show!!!

Also joined a site to connect and network with models and industry people.  I’ve been contacted by a number of photographers recently who wish to shoot my pieces.  Meeting with a promising photographer next Friday to look at shooting the three garments I’m currently making.   And it’s through this site that I found my models for the Bellevue show – they’re local women that are incredibly talented.  One of them has asked me to participate in a number of other community fashion events!!!

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve too, but you’ll just have to wait for those ;-)  Can’t share all of my secrets, now can I?

The biggest news is…. I’ve finally finished my new winter coat!!!  Just in time for the weather to turn around, right?  I didn’t design it, but it does showcase my tailoring skills.  And I just LOVE the aqua wool!!!  It’s lined in silver.  Yum!  Can’t wait to wear it…. in like 6 months!
