The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
Human beings amaze me. I am continuously fascinated by our species. We are truly remarkable creatures that do not recognize the power we hold.
A mentor of mine once illuminated for me the idea that "I'll believe it when I see it" is completely wrong. The reality is: In order to see it, you must first believe it.
I've become so hyper aware of this concept in my life and the lives of my clients + loved ones. And it has sparked a realization within myself.....
Humans are walking + talking self-fulfilling prophecies.
For the purposes of this blog, a self-fulfilling prophecy is:
a positive or negative expectation about ones self based on circumstances, events, or other people that affects beliefs in a manner that causes those expectations to be fulfilled.***
Basically.... when you affirm something about who you are or what your place is in the world - you will always be proven right.
Why? Because your subconscious mind literally doesn't know the difference between fantasy and reality. So whatever you think in your conscious mind is programmed in as fact in your subconscious mind, and then your reality is created around this.
When you think or say something as simple as 'I am broke' or 'I am unsuccessful' your brain processes it as if you had said 'The sky is blue' or 'I live in XYZ city.' Fascinating, right?
So, if you're going to have beliefs or make assumptions..... and you know that whatever those beliefs and assumptions are what's producing the results in your life.... what if you were to assume something positive?
This can be really fun to play with once you're conscious of it.... because it means that any unsatisfactory results you see in your reality can be solved as easily as changing your believe about the situation.
So, remember - you can have or do anything
that you are willing to believe.
What you believe, you will see.
Start tracking your thoughts. Notice what comes up consistently and how it's producing the results in your life. And I invite you to consider.....
What could you think differently to rewrite your beliefs and create a different reality?
***Note: Modern Psychology indicates that a second person must be present in order for a self-fulfilling prophecy to occur. I argue the contrary - one can create and realize a self-fulfilling prophecy without the presence of another person.
